Richard "Bud" Harold Ferris, Sr.

Richard “Bud” Harold Ferris, Sr., 77, of Boyne City, Michigan, passed away on June 9, 2026, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family.

Son of Harold Versal Ferris and Mona Illene (Conway) Ferris, Bud was born on December 16, 1948, in Boyne City. He grew up in Boyne City and attended Boyne City public schools.

On October 30, 1971, he married Deborah Kay Young in Boyne City.

Bud was a custom woodworker and worked for 42 years at Michigan Maple Block in Petoskey, Michigan.

Bud loved to play pool, Texas Holdom with friends, and basketball. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting and collecting guns, and classic cars. Bud loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Matthew Catholic Church of Boyne City.

Bud is survived by his wife Deborah Ferris of 54 years; his children: Richard (Nessa) Ferris, Jr. of Petoskey, Anthony (Eva) Ferris of East Jordan, Maribeth (Tim) Girlinghouse of Mancelona, and Nicole (David) Dunson of East Jordan; many grandkids and great grandkids; and honorary brother Elmer Gilmore.

He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Mona Ferris; his twin sister Judy (Jules) Cone of Petoskey; sister Marsha Moore of Boyne City; infant sister Margaret Ferris; and grandson Anthony Ferris.

Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Bud’s memory are asked by family to consider St. Matthew Catholic Church.

A visitation will be held at Stackus Funeral Home on June 11, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be officiated by Father Dennis Stilwell at St. Matthew Catholic Church on June 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, a rosary will be receipted at 9:30 AM and visitation will resume at 10:00 AM. Procession to Maple Lawn Cemetery will follow immediately after the mass for the graveside committal.
