Robert M. Crandell, 87 of Charlevoix, Michigan, passed away on May 27, 2025 at his home with his loving family by his side.
Son of Elmer and Kathryn (McVannel) Crandell, Bob was born on December 16, 1937, in Gaylord, Michigan. He grew up in Horton Bay, Michigan, and attended Horton Bay grade school and graduated from Boyne City High School in 1957.
In 1962, he married Penny Shepler who preceded him in death in 1972.
On July 1, 1976, he married Pauline Moats in Bay Shore, Michigan.
Bob served in the United States Coast Guard. While in the military he enjoyed boxing and was the Golden Glove Feather Weight Champion.
Bob owned and operated his own excavating company, Bob Crandell Excavating. He was also one of the original charter members to start the Northern Michigan Antique Flywheelers in Boyne Falls, Michigan.
He enjoyed collecting tractors and demonstrating bull whipping. Bob liked to go on hayrides, camp, and make maple syrup with his family also.
Bob was a member of Jesus is Lord Community Church in Bay Shore, as well as the Northern Michigan Antique Flywheelers.
Bob is survived by his wife Pauline Crandell; his children Robert M. (Kimberly) Crandell, II, David McFall, Paula (partner Mark Juday) Stevens, Robert (Janet) Moats, and Michael (Dawn) Moats; grandchildren: Tyler Lalley, Zackary Crandell, Christopher (partner Janelle Whisnant) Bradley, Cody ( Erica) Bradley, and William Stevens; many great-grandchildren; brothers Dan (Starann) Crandell; sister-in-law Diane Crandell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his wife Penny Crandell; sons Scott A. Crandell, and David Moats; parents Elmer and Catherine Crandell; sister Genevive (Grant) Furguson; and brothers Lester (Dorthy) Crandell, Gordon Crandell, and Donald Crandell.
Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Bob’s memory are asked by family to consider the Northern Michigan Antique Flywheelers.
