Robert “Bob” Ledingham, 81, of Alanson, died June 26, 2022 at his home surrounded by family.
Bob was born February 21, 1941, in Wyandotte, Michigan, the son of Frederick and Clarissa (DeWitt) Ledingham. He attended Lincoln Park High School and graduated in 1959.
On February 3, 1962, he married Sharon Weaver. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Bob and Sharon moved to Alanson in 1972. He loved everything Northern Michigan had to offer, from hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. Bob and Sharon loved to travel in their RV and spend winters in Florida.
Bob owned Tom’s Vending for 30 years until selling the business in 1999. He also served on the planning and zoning commission for Emmet County and Littlefield Township. After retirement, he began wood working and was very talented at making handcrafted pens and bowls. He was passionate about sharing his talents and would often take his creations to local artists markets.
Bob was a man of few words but he knew what was important in life. He made time to coach little league and act as a Cub Scout Leader for his boys when they were in school. He attended hundreds of high school sporting events over the years, for his sons and grandsons. You could count on him to be in the stands, even in a downpour, he would never miss a game. He led by example and that is the legacy he has instilled in his sons and grandsons.
Bob is survived by the love of his life, Sharon Ledingham of Alanson; his sons, Dan (Mary) Ledingham of Petoskey and Todd Ledingham of Alanson; grandsons, Chase (Jacqueline Stein), Noah, Ethan and Garrett Ledingham; siblings, John “Jack” (Shirley) Ledingham and Suzanne (Barry) Gavel; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Tom Ledingham and sister Judy Woodby.
The Ledingham family wishes to honor him with a private family service but for those wishing to make a charitable donation in his memory, please consider Hospice of Michigan (989 Spaulding SE, Ada, MI 49301).
As Bob would often do in conversation, we will leave you with his simple words of wisdom: “Be good”.
