Robert “Bob” Montgomery, 76, of Wolverine, died April 19, 2025, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

Bob was born on September 5, 1948, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Robert Sr. and Phyllis (Coty) Montgomery. He was raised in Saginaw and attended school before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Bob served in Vietnam from 1966 until 1968, when he was honorably discharged after sustaining injuries. In recognition of his service and sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart.

After returning home to Michigan, Bob met the love of his life, Nancy Beatty. The two were married on August 8, 1970, and together they built a life in Saginaw, raising their son, Shane.

Bob dedicated many years to public service as a Sheriff’s Deputy with Saginaw County, retiring in 1998. In 2005, he and Nancy relocated to Wolverine, where he enjoyed the peace of northern Michigan. An avid outdoorsman, Bob loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and woodworking. He was also a fan of Western novels and films, especially those starring John Wayne.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW group in Roscommon, Michigan.

Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years Nancy Montgomery; his son Shane (Amanda Coutts) Montgomery; grandson Gavin Montgomery; siblings Sandra, Kate, Richard (Lisa), and Randy (Beth); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
