Ronald Lee John

Ronald Lee John, 68 of Charlevoix, Michigan, passed away on April 22, 2025, in East Jordan, Michigan.

Son of William Shananaquet and Betty Lou John, Ron was born on November 8, 1956 in Charlevoix.

Ron loved to play pool and was a state champion pool player.

Ron was a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians.

He is survived by his children: Raelee (Nebin) John of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Britteny (Tylee) Chesebro of Lansing, MI, Ronald Levi (Kyla) John, Jr., Mayan Bisk of Milwaukee, WI, and Justine Marie John of Grand Rapids, MI; his siblings: Anna (Gary) Smith of Charlevoix, James Austin, Richard Willigham of Kingford, TN, Billi Jo (David) Russell from East Jordan, John Austin of Grand Rapids, Tami Spraque of Grand Rapids, Marcia (Darrin) Force of Grandville, MI, Bret Shomin of Grand Rapids, Shannon Shananaquet of Mt. Pleasant; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many, many cousins.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents Betty Lou and William (Mary) Shananaquet, Sr. brothers William “Big Will” Shananaquet, Jr. and Kenny Kewagshkem; granddaughter Reinalda Marie Plata.

A funeral service officiated by Sam McClellan will be held at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, Michigan, on April 27, 2025 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM.
