Rose Krupa Obituary

Rose M. (Smith) Krupa, 92, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan.

Rose was born on September 12, 1933, in Harbor Springs, Michigan, to Anna (Keller) and Judd Smith. She grew up in Harbor Springs, attended the local schools, and graduated from Harbor Springs High School in 1950. On July 31, 1965, she married Andrew Krupa in Chicago, Illinois.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Judd Smith; her beloved husband of 51 years, Andrew "Andy" Krupa; her son, Mark Krupa; her daughter, Krissy Wright; her sister, Evelyn (Smith) Meyer; her brothers-in-law, Bill Meyer and John Groskopf; and her sister-in-law, Margaret Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Tricia (Ted) Blatt; her grandchildren, Bryan, Timothy, Tori, Marc, and Erin; her great grandchildren Lainey, Zachery, Cami, Callie, Caleb, Liv, and Mia; her sisters, Doris Groskopf, Eleanor (John) Cupps, and Chris (Rick) Manville; and her brother, Tom (Carolyn) Smith.

In her younger years, Rose worked at Hovey’s Pharmacy in Harbor Springs. She later spent most of her career with Wilson's Enterprises in Chicago, where she worked until retiring at the age of 72.

Rose found joy in knitting, creating countless afghans and lap blankets for family and friends. Everyone who touched her life was likely the recipient of one of her handmade creations. She constantly donated lap blankets to local organizations such as Bay Bluffs, Veterans homes, the Women’s Resource Center and to many local charity fundraisers. Knitting was more than a hobby; it was part of who she was. She continued knitting until the very end, leading her family to affectionately describe her condition as "NNK"—Never Not Knitting.

Rose also enjoyed reading, entertaining friends, playing 21 at the casino, running the annual family Super Bowl pool, and cheering on her grandson Bryan in his many bowling adventures.

Rose will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Harbor Springs during a private family graveside service.

God love her. Rest in peace. We will miss her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Vincent de Paul, 150 W. Main Street, Harbor Springs, MI 49740, or the Friendship Centers of Emmet County, 1322 Anderson Road, Petoskey, MI 49770.
