Roy H. Cool

Roy H. Cool, age 85, of Boyne City, Michigan, passed away October 15, 2025, at Medilodge in Gaylord, Michigan.

Roy was born on May 26, 1940, in Hayes Township, Michigan. The son of Lillian Eleanor Harris and Harold Ordiway Cool, Roy lived and attended school through Boyne City. He married Bonnie Mitchell on June 2, 1986, in Charlevoix, sharing with her 39 years of marriage and a beautiful, blended family.

Roy loved the natural world, treasuring the flowers he cultivated, sitting out by the lake, and spending time with his dog, Holly. A warm and welcoming spirit, he also loved having a good day at the casino and camping with family and friends.

Roy is remembered fondly by many family members and friends, a testament to the warmth he embodied through the nature of his character. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Cool of Boyne City, sister Arbutus Stevens of East Jordan, brother Dave Smith of Belaire, sister-in-law Judy Mitchel Fraser of Grandview, East Jordan, and a rich immediate and extended family; including daughter Christie Elzinga with Derrick Struble and grandchildren Jordan Mitchel, Garrick Struble, and great-granddaughter Amara Grace Tallboys of Boyne Falls and Allegan, MI; son Scott with Denise Elzinga and grandchildren Jay, Aden, Katie, and Graceson of Walloon Lake; son Bob with Carol Genson and grandchildren James and Amanda of Boyne City; son Charles “Joe” with Sandy Gregware of LaPeer, granddaughter Brianne with Steven Burker, and great-granddaughter Lily Ann of Brighton, Michigan.

Roy is also survived by daughter Patty Kellogg with grandchildren Caleb, and Cory with Trisha Vroman and great-grandson Miles of Buckley; daughter Vickky Kiogima and grandson Mikkey of Petoskey; daughter Angie with Walt Tieber and grandson Walter of Boyne Falls; son Roy A. Cool with grandson Roy Jr. of Boyne City; son Ron Bradley and kids of Florida; son Dwayne with Brenda Cool and Brandy Rose of Alanson; grandson Cam with Ashley Gregware of Fenton; granddaughter Tia with Jim Lappan and great-grandchildren Sophia, Emma, and Owen of Gaylord; granddaughter Amber with Devin Lownsberry and great-grandson Brice; granddaughter Dorothy Pagel with great-grandchildren Kiki and Noah of Petoskey; granddaughter Ashley with Matt Poole and great-grandson Wyatt and Amy Tieber of Boyne City; and Pam, Billy, Joe, Cindy (Radle) Walton of Alanson, Boyne City, and the Upper Peninsula. He is also loved by many, many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Harold Cool; Pat Cool of Petoskey; brothers Dan Cool and Norman Cool; sisters Joyce Smith and Kathy Kennola; mother-in-law Madeline Mitchell and father-in-law Lyman Mitchell; son-in-law Mike Kiogima; brother-in-law Pat Mitchell; and grandson Justin Pagel.

The family extends many thanks to Bea and hospice, and Bonnie Cool would like to thank Medilodge of Gaylord, her neighbors on Jersey Street, Lisa H., Molly, Amy Veal and family, Sue and Ron Cooper for all your help with Roy. He was an angel to all his blended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Roy will be held at the Boyne City Eagle's Lodge FOE 1583 on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be addressed to the family.
