Russell E Latier

Russell Edward Latier, 83, passed away on September 5, 2023. He was born on July 30, 1940. Russell served in the Army from 1958-1961, in France. He met Sylvia while racing down Warren Ave., in Detroit, and they were married on September 1, 1962. They welcomed their first daughter Cheryl to the family, and soon after came Sharon.

Russell worked for J. L. Sherk in Detroit for 35 years.

Vacations were always spent up north, so in 1999 he and Sylvia decided to move here to enjoy their retirement. He enjoyed boating, camping, working on cars, and carpentry.

Russell is survived by two daughters; Cheryl Mercer and Sharon Latier (Eric Pliska), two grandchildren Nicolas Mercer (Elena Roma) and Heidi Jesweak (Brock), and one great grandson Dean Jesweak, nieces; Rhonda Hamblin, Alisha (Shannon) Hummel, Jake (Tiffany) Wedge, Jessica (and the late Zack) Chivell, nephews; Stan Sikorski and Jeffrey Sikorski, and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 61 years, Sylvia (Sikorski), brother Terry Latier, sister Delores Latier, his parents Lester and Shirley, grandparents George and Harriet Champ, his uncle Joe Champ, and brothers and sisters in law Virginia and Bob Olszewski and Stan and Joanne Sikorski.

Services for Rusell will take place on September 9, 2023 at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Mackinaw City. Visitation will be at 10:00AM and funeral Mass will be at 11:00AM, followed by burial at Lakeview Cemetery, then a luncheon at Audie’s Restaurant in Mackinaw City.
