Ruth Louise Hathaway (Pop), a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on March 18, 2026 at the age of 69. Ruth was born on July 3, 1956 in Harbor Springs, Michigan to Hiram Royal 'Jim' Hathaway and Laura A Watros. She attended Harbor Springs High School while living in Alanson, then moved to Charlevoix to begin her family.
Ruth is survived by three siblings - Beverly Kilmer, Enid Young, and Michael Hathaway, as well as her four children - Larry D Pop, Charles Pop, Laura Pop, and James Pop. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren - Anishka, Owen, Lindsey, Charley, Danal, Elizabeth, Brennan, Mary, and Dallas and two great-grandchildren - William and Alora.
Ruth was extremely dedicated to her family and known for her cheerful, loving spirit. She returned to college later in life, earning an associate's degree from NCMC in 2010, demonstrating her passion for learning and self-improvement. She always pushed herself and her family to grow and to chase their dreams.
In her free time, Ruth was an avid baseball fan, cheering on her beloved Detroit Tigers. She also enjoyed playing competitive games of Skip-Bo with her family, relaxing with a game of pool, and singing karaoke. Ruth's infectious laughter, warm hugs, and unwavering support will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service celebrating Ruth's life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, led by Ed Warner. Time and location will be announced once known.
