Ruth Bernadine (VanJaarsveld) Walters

Ruth, 89 was born in Detroit to Althea and Nicholas VanJaarsveld.  She passed peacefully while in Hospice Care at McLaren Hospital, Petosky, MI September 3, 2023

Ruth married her high school sweetheart Robert LeRoy Walters March 14, 1953 at Utica United Methodist Church, Utica, MI.  They started their married life in Georgia for two years before settling back in Utica by their family. Retirement came in 1994 moving them to Indian River.  They were married 46 years. They had four children, David, Rebecca, Karen, Pamela.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, parents Althea (Samsell) and Nicholas VanJaarsveld.  Siblings: Harold (Patricia) VanJaarsveld, Norman (Harriet) VanJaarsveld, Lee (Beverly) VanJaarsveld. 

Ruth is survived by her children, David (Nancy) Walters, Rebecca (Michael) Stange, Karen (Patrick) Lyons, Pamela (David) Feidner. 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Ruth enjoyed her life as a loving wife and mother.  Her faith was a testament to her family and friends throughout her life.  Ruth enjoyed sewing, knitting, and golf. But her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Ruth also loved singing in the church choir for many years. 

The family would like memorials in Ruth's name to go to McLaren Hospice, 1 Hiland Drive, Petoskey, MI 49770.
