Sally May (Hughey) Gokee

Sally May Gokee, 83 passed away February 14, 2019 at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan.

Sally was born April 15, 1936 to Clarence and Viola (Cooper) Hughey in Boyne City, Michigan.

On December 24, 1956 Sally married Stephen Gokee in Boyne City, Michigan. They made their home in Redford Township, Detroit, Michigan. Sally had two children, a daughter Barbara who passed away in early childhood and a son, Stephen Gokee, Jr.

Sally worked at Sanders Candy Factory for many years and loved her job. Sally and Steve loved their home area so they purchased a lot on the water in Alanson, Michigan. They traveled home to enjoy this spot as often as possible. Steve and Sally retired to Alanson in 1995.

Sally loved being outdoors, whether it was boating or tending to her flower gardens. They loved to have large campfires with family and friends.

Sally is survived by her son, Stephen Gokee; granddaughter, Christine Woodward; and her beautiful great grandchildren, Caden, Madelyn, Grant and Juliana Woodward. She is also survived by her sisters, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws, Suzanne Stepik, Lily Oleson, Nancy and Gordon Temple, Kathey and Dan Warner, Louise and Les Bosma, Joanne and Doran Stanley, sister-in-laws, Carole Hughey, Sue Hughey and Maxine Hughey.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Gokee; daughter, Barbara; granddaughter Kelly Lynn Gokee; brothers, Clarence Jr., John and Otto Hughey; brother-in-laws, Dick Stepik and Walter Oleson.

Sally left behind many friends and a mountain of family who loved her deeply. We will miss you Sally May.

A private family service will take place later this year.
