Scott Richard Searles

Scott Searles of Levering, Michigan, age 65, died September 30, 2025, at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey, Michigan. Scott was born May 6, 1960, in Lansing, Michigan, to Herbert Searles Jr. and Rosalie (Lawrence) Searles. He grew up in Dewitt, Michigan, where he attended Dewitt High School.

On October 20, 1984, he married the love of his life, Sue Ann Omerod, in East Lansing. The couple spent forty years together following their marriage.

A strong and dedicated worker, Scott spent twenty-six years building cars with General Motors, helping carry on Michigan’s historic automotive industry with care and attention to detail. During his employment with GM, Scott also owned and operated Tint King in Lansing for twenty-five years.

Scott found great joy in winter sports and other Northern Michigan activities, settling into his home in Levering where he could rekindle his love for woodworking, snowmobiling, boating, shrooming, and fishing. When Michigan winters proved especially cold, Searles also enjoyed the opportunity to winter in sunny Arizona.

Scott was a kind soul that was loved as a brother by many; including for his more rambunctious, wild side! Kids and animals gravitated to Scott, understanding that with him they could find gentleness and warmth. He was an important person in the lives of Jessica Doner and Austin Rosenquist.

Scott is survived by his wife Sue Ann Searles, his brother Jay (Regina) Searles, his brothers- and sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Herbert Searles Jr., his mother Rosalie Searles, his brother Perry Searles, and his niece Hollie Searles.

A memorial service will be held for Scott at Stone Funeral Home on October 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Scott’s name, in assistance to our veterans.
