Scott Seiferlein Obituary

Scott S. Seiferlein, 77, of Petoskey, died October 29, 2025.

He was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on November 20, 1947, to Sidney and Marie (Hager) Seiferlein. After graduating high school, Scott joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country from 1967 to 1971 as a Munitions Specialist Supervisor. Following his return from Vietnam, he worked as a Sergeant for Muskegon Township Police Department. It was at this time that he met his long time companion and wife, Sherry Coultes. During and after his time as a police officer, Scott attended Baker College, Grand Valley State University and the University of Michigan working toward a degree in mechanical engineering. He then went to work for Diesel Technology in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he worked on developing diesel fuel injector systems. In 1998, Scott joined Sturman Industries in Woodland Park, Colorado, working on camless engine technology. That career took him all over Europe and Japan. While living in Colorado, he enjoyed many outdoor activities including horseback riding, sport shooting, fly fishing and hiking. He and Sherry spent 20 years in Divide, Colorado before returning to Michigan and retiring in Petoskey.

Scott was a man of many talents, he was an accomplished painter and woodworker, and even designed several of the homes he and Sherry lived in. He enjoyed home projects, tinkering with cars, and building miniature sailing vessels. Scott was known for his ingenuity and ability to fix just about anything. He was also a proud member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Scott is survived by his wife Sherry Coultes Seiferlein; nieces and nephews Mark (Heather) Seiferlein, Matt (Luan) Seiferlein, Mike (Mandy) Seiferlein, Mitch (Brett) Seiferlein, Stacey (Tim) Loescher, Kendra (Jon) Hancotte, Renee Wycoff, Andrea Dayharsh, Jerry (Tami) Dayharsh, Ben (Holly) Coultes and Christopher Coultes; sisters-in-law Laura Seiferlein, Marie Dayharsh, and Barbara Godfrey.

He is preceded in death by his brother Serge Seiferlein; brother-in-law Don Coultes and nephew Brent Dayharsh.
