Sharon Lou (Tippett) Smith

Sharon Lou (Tippett) Smith, 70, of Harbor Springs, died unexpectedly at her home on November 15, 2020.

Sharon was born on December 22, 1949, the daughter of Horace and Veda (Burdick) Tippett. She was Homecoming Queen and graduated from Harbor Springs in 1968.

On September 20, 1969, Sharon married the love of her life, Jerry Smith at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Harbor Springs. They would share the next 51 years happily married.

Sharon worked as a beautician all of her life and for the last 25 years she owned "Mak'n'Waves" hair salon that she operated out of her home. She was an artist and enjoyed many different kinds of crafts and creating beautiful works of stained glass, as well as playing the clarinet in the Harbor Springs Community Band for years.

Sharon was a wonderful mom and grandmother. When her son Garrett was growing up, his friends affectionately referred to Sharon as "mom" because that's how she made everyone feel. She mothered her friends, clients and anyone that was a guest in her home. Once Sharon became a grandmother, she spent countless hours volunteering in her granddaughter's elementary school classroom and would gladly chauffeur her to any sporting event or activity. She was truly the definition of kindness, generosity and love.

Sharon is survived by her sweetheart, Jerry Smith of Harbor Springs; her son Garrett Smith of Harbor Springs; and her granddaughter, Carissa Smith.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Stuart Tippett.

Services are planned for a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Stone Funeral Home (Petoskey).
