Shirley Ann Smith, 93, of Petoskey, passed away suddenly but peacefully October 30th, 2023, holding the hand of her dear nephew, Charlie Smith.
While Shirley never married or had children of her own, she was the beloved aunt, great aunt and even great-great aunt anyone would wish for.
Shirley epitomized the words grace and elegance. She was kind and thoughtful and was quick with a laugh.
For 35 years she was the executive secretary to the Vice President of American Motors. She lived a majority of her life in Detroit. As a young girl we thought of her as “That Girl” or “Mary Tyler Moore”. She was fashionable and always drove Up North for holidays sporting a new AMC car. Christmas presents from Aunt Shirley were the best!
Shirley was a wonderful story teller of her world travels with her parents and was a great confidante.
She is the last of her generation in our family and will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind, especially niece Cyndi (Smith) Caponi, nephew, Jeff Smith and wife Lisa Smith and the many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Carl H. Smith. She will join 4 generations of our family at Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial service will be planned for next summer at Greenwood Cemetery.
