Shirley Crozier Obituary

Shirley Ann Crozier (Green) 83, Boyne City, passed away peacefully September 12, 2021.

Shirley was born in Gurdon, Arkansas and was the daughter of Iva and James Orville Green. She graduated from North Little Rock High and went on to become Ms. North Little Rock. Later she attended Secretarial School and worked at the Little Rock State Capital. Shirley met her husband Harvey Crozier, Jr while he was in the Air Force. They married and moved back to Boyne City.

As an active member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, Shirley gained the rank of Grand Organist for the Grand Family. Her children often fell asleep to her playing the organ at bedtime.

Shirley worked as an administrative assistant for Northern Michigan Electric, Leximar, and Boyne Mountain. She started the Range Riders 4-H Horse Club when her children were young and influenced many of the area’s youth with her horse expertise for over 20 years. Shirley later went on to become a horse show judge. Shirley was instrumental in organizing Ladies Day at the Range at the Charlevoix Rod and Gun Club. She also served on the Boyne City School Board for many years.

Shirley will be remembered for her loving and giving nature and her kind soul. A generous spirit, she touched many during her lifetime. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She and her husband Harv never missed a sporting event, quickly becoming everyone’s fill-in grandparents and cheerleaders. She could be found delivering food before long bus rides, cheering from the outfield, sidelines, or bleachers and always had hugs, pats on the back, and treats for the team. She loved spoiling her grandchildren with candies, hugs, and days on the pontoon fishing or tossing around a ball. She is most famous for her “pie-obler” (was it pie or cobbler?), her blackeyed peas and cornbread, being an expert at hiding the infamous pickle ornament on the Christmas tree, and for her yodel montage while cleaning the house.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harvey Crozier, Jr.; their 4 children Ed Crozier, Doug Crozier, Cinda (Todd) Shumaker, and Keisha (Dave) Crozier-Krumm; and 6 grandchildren Cheyenne Shumaker, Kolbi Shumaker, Emma Shumaker, Kimberly Crozier, Charlena Crozier, and Tucker Krumm; and her puppy Bella Reuger.

At Shirley’s request, there will be no funeral services but a private family burial will be held.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to fighting Alzheimers at alz.org then click Donate.

And yes, mom, we will always remember to “pray for the troops every Thanksgiving and Christmas!”

Shirley will be missed beyond measure.
