Shirley Hebert Obituary

Shirley Ann Marcero Hebert, age 88, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 in West Branch, MI with her family by her side. She was born on September 26, 1932 in New Baltimore, MI to Leo and Ella (Hubbarth) Marcero, the ninth of eleven children. She married Kenneth L. Hebert on April 16, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Baltimore, MI.

Shirley (married 68 years) is survived by six children, Debbie Walker of West Branch, MI, Wendy (Tom) Gekiere of Macomb, MI, Kenneth M. (Ivy) Hebert of Rose City MI, Mark (Kay) Hebert of Casco, MI, Michael Hebert of Cheboygan, MI and Patrick (Kimberly) Hebert of White Lake, MI. Also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Stephanie and Natalie Walker, April (Turgeon), Aaron and Andrea (Ames) Gekiere, Ken Jr., Melissa (Davis) and Ryan Hebert, Jennifer Shelson, Amanda (Deering) and Mark Jr. Hebert, Daeton and Jordan Hebert and 9 great grandchildren Surviving sister is Joyce Steffen of Menominee, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, her parents and siblings, Leola, Luella, Keith, Richard, Wesley, Angela, Gloria, Lois, and Darlene (Sister Ellen).

As a member of St. Mary’s Queen of Creation Church, New Baltimore, Michigan, Shirley sang in the interfaith choir. In 1973, she moved to the Rose City area and joined Holy Family Catholic Church where she was a member of St. Anthony’s Guild. In 1995, Shirley and her husband retired to their lake house in Cheboygan, MI, where she became a member of St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church and visited the nursing homes as a Eucharistic Minister.

Shirley loved her family, singing, nature, birding, baking, canning, gardening, canoeing, fishing, hunting and going for walks.

In the past few years, she moved to the West Branch Manor to be closer to her children and renewed her interest in bird watching and jigsaw puzzles.

The funeral mass will take place at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the mass. Rev. Duane Wachowiak will officiate and burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Compassus Hospice, 3217 West M-55, Suite B, West Branch, MI 48661.  Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
