Carol A. Bearss, a woman of deep faith, lifelong education, and dedicated community service, passed away peacefully at the age of 90.
Born on June 6, 1935, in Marquette, Michigan, Carol was the youngest of seven children born to Ralph and Ethel Bearss, Sr. Her family later relocated to Boyne City, Michigan, where she attended local schools and graduated with the Class of 1953.
Driven by a profound spiritual calling, Carol joined the Sisters of Christian Charity in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, that same year. She devoted 25 years to this community of religious women, embarking on a life centered on faith and education. A passionate lifelong learner, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Silver Lake College, a Master of Science in Teaching from the University of Wisconsin, and a Master of Theology from the Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wisconsin.
Carol spent decades shaping young minds as an elementary and high school teacher and school administrator. Following her distinguished career in education, she transitioned into parish life, serving faithfully as a Pastoral Associate in Wisconsin. In 1982, she joined the Sisters for Christian Community, remaining a dedicated member of the Michigan/Wisconsin Region for the rest of her life.
In 2001, Carol returned to her Boyne City roots. Showing her enduring work ethic and love for community, she served as the on-site manager of the Lakeview Mobile Home Park for two and a half years before officially retiring in 2004.
Carol was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ralph and Ethel Bearss, Sr.; her sisters, Bernice Bearss and Marilyn Jarema; and her brothers, Ralph, Robert, Norman, and Lyle Bearss. She leaves behind a legacy of grace and devotion, and is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A funeral Mass will be at St. Matthew Catholic Church on July 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and procession to Maple Lawn Cemetery for the graveside committal will follow immediately after Mass.
Arrangements are in the care of Stackus Funeral Home.
