Although we have moved away from the Petoskey area to Arizona, we have not forgotten the great Andrew Family and Sturgeon River Pottery.
We offer our sincere condolences to the Andrews family on the loss of a great man and wonderful community supporter.
I especially remember when Steve and family generously donated a beautiful copper fountain to our Northern Michigan Hospital nurses respite room. We were most grateful for their thoughtfulness.
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Karen, Dana, and Kolby,
I have been absorbing the impact of Steves loss for days and amid and despite the sadness I am often drawn to the humor and joy that Steve brought to my life and to everyone who had the good fortune to know him. The value he added to our lives can not really be measured. I hope you sense the positive well of feeling that all of us have for all of you.

Dear Karen, I only met Steve recently but he made such an impression on me and we had so much in common. First, we met at a Parkinsons Disease support group. Steve had such leadership skills and was so influenential and helpful to others there. Second, Steve was attached to the U. S. Marine Corps 1st Division and belonged to a Forced Recon outfit. I was in the Marines also during the same time period but fortunately did not serve any combat duty. Steve, on the other hand was awarded many medals including a Purple Heart. We are going to miss Steve beyond what my words can illustrate. Karen, our hearfelt condolences on the loss of this wonderful man.

Truly . . . one of those 'one-in-a-million' type of folk. Although it was only a couple of times which to this day I regret, I met Steve & Karen over 30 years ago -- picking their brains on the political layout of NW Lower. Politics aside, I realized quickly what a genuine couple they were. Absolutely spot-on true souls who knew their worth on this earth. God has Blessed Steve --- and HE will continue to look after Steve's loving family.

Sharing just a small piece of one's life means so much. Our thoughts and memories of our past together seems so clear, albeit thirty years ago. Karen, please know you are in our thoughts. May you be especially strong knowing that Steve played a pivotal role of your life. God Bless you and your family.

Steve leaves an inspiring legacy of engagement in, and service to, the community. We are all the better for having had him in our midst. I'm grateful for the beauty he brought into the world through his pottery and the other wonderful things in the store. His memory endures in bird song.

I am currently in Washington DC and was just alongside the Vietnam Memorial. Steve touched many of these vets just like he touched a huge piece of the Northern Michigan Community...with quiet strength. His fingerprints are over this memorial as well as all over Northern Michigan. This is a huge loss for us, but hopefully we can use his template for servanthood and carry that spirit forward in our own lives.

Dear Karen, Dana and Family,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Steve was such a wonderful guy. I've enjoyed knowing Karen and Steve since you first started carrying bird products. And that goes back a long time. Steve used to come to my classroom in Charlevoix and showed my students the various kinds of bird feeders when we covered our unit on birds. My students loved him and Steve always left a bird feeder for our classrooms if we did not already have one. After Dana took over the store, it was always great running into Steve to catch up on what you and Steve were doing. He will be missed.
My condolences to you and your family.

The passing of steve has been marked by his many veteran brothers and sisters. He was considered to be a true Marine in any sense of the word by those of us who knew. As a "DOC", he exemplified all that is good in men. He was all his life... An honorable man in an honorable business.

Steve leaves a legacy that all should follow. He was strong yet gentle. He was gruff but loving. He was firm but fair. He was tough but caring. He worked very hard but enjoyed every moment of his life. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and a great friend. We will miss him but have so many wonderful memories to cherish.

I cannot put into words how heavy my heart was when I learned of Steve's passing. He was such an incredible force for good and such a wonderful soul. Under that tough and weathered exterior laid one of the best hearts I've ever known.

I'm so sorry for the pain that all of you are feeling, and I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to call him my friend.

Godspeed, Steve. I've no doubt where you're at now.

Dear Karen, Toby told me about Steve's passing and I just wanted to let you know how very sorry I am to hear this heart wrenching news. Although we have not been in touch for over 30 years, you and Steve were very special to us when we lived in Gaylord. Toby and I have both remarried and live about a block apart and see each other all the time. I wish you some comfort in all of your happy memories with Steve. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you and your family, Cheri
