Steven Lawrence “Stevie” Cupps
August 30, 1972 – April 21, 2026
Steven Lawrence “Stevie” Cupps, 53, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Henry Ford Hospital. He was born on August 30, 1972, the son of John and Eleanor (Smith) Cupps.
Stevie attended school in the Char-Em program through Harbor Springs High School and graduated with the Class of 1992.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John C. Cupps and Louise Lybarker; Judd and Anna Smith; aunts and uncles Bill and Eve Meyer, Andy Krupa, John Grosskopf, and Margrette Smith.
Stevie is survived by his loving parents, John and Eleanor Cupps; his brothers, John and Matthew Cupps; his niece, Grace (Will) Jeffries, his aunts, Rose Krupa, Doris Grosskopf, Mary Williams, and Chris (Rick) Manville; his uncle, Tom (Carolyn) Smith; and many cousins.
Stevie was known as a gentle giant—a peaceful soul with a soft handshake, a larger-than-life smile, and a hug that would last a lifetime. His greatest passion was his family. He showed his love through the countless little things he did every day to support and care for his parents. He also enjoyed working alongside his family in the Cupps Masonry business, spending time in the woods with his dad, and going out to lunch at local spots.
In his younger years, Stevie loved fishing, especially smelt running, which brought him great joy. He also had a deep love for the Harbor Springs community. He could often be found downtown, stopping into local businesses to say hello, enjoying an iced tea or Coke, lending a helping hand, or playing the claw machine—where he was a master. Through those games, he shared countless stuffed animals and small acts of kindness with others.
Sports were another of Stevie’s greatest passions. From all things Detroit to the Harbor Springs Rams, he dedicated over 30 years to supporting Rams athletics. Whether keeping stats for baseball or helping with basketball programs, Stevie took pride in being part of the teams and cherished the relationships he built along the way.
He was also a familiar and friendly presence at American Legion Post 281, always ready to help—whether at band nights, dinners, or breakfasts. Stevie’s kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit touched the lives of so many. He gave freely of his love and asked for nothing in return.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire community. Stevie’s life was a reminder that kindness matters, and his love made everyone around him a little better.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Stevie’s name to the American Legion Post 281 or the Harbor Springs Rams Booster.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Schiller Funeral Home. A service will take place on Saturday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the Harbor Springs High School gymnasium. Burial will follow, and all are invited to gather afterward at the American Legion from 1:00–3:00 p.m. to share memories and celebrate Stevie’s life.
