Susan Deroos Obituary

In Loving Memory of Susan Bea DeRoos

Kind. Generous. Creative. Tough.

Susan Bea DeRoos lived a life deeply rooted in love, resilience, and laughter. Born to Jack and Gertrude (Spencely) Taylor on August 15, 1953, she brought beauty into the world, not just through what she created, but through the way she made people feel.

Sue was a gardener of both flowers and souls, a master in the kitchen, a skilled seamstress, and a joyful wanderer of woods and fields; finding happiness in mornings picking blueberries, the hopeful hunt for the elusive morel, morning coffee, humming her favorite songs, cooking and baking for family and friends, trips to the casino, and most of all, watching her children and grandchildren grow.

She worked as a CNA at Community Memorial Hospital starting in high school, and continuing for over 20 years. Sue also owned and operated Bob’s Shoe Repair downtown for a time, and was proud to show off “Nana’s Notions” at local craft shows, where she was best known for her mittens and old world Santas. In recent years Sue was the primary caretaker of her husband, William DeRoos, who passed away in December 2024.

Sue was kind to her core, generous with her time and talents, endlessly creative, and quietly, bewilderingly tough. She met life with open arms and a full heart, and her strength was a steady, grounding presence to all who knew her. Sue’s desire to care for others was unwavering - she would do anything she could, and she felt proud to be needed.

She passed on April 14, 2025 and while it may have been unexpected, she’s leaving behind a legacy of love, handmade memories, and the wisdom of a life well lived. Preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, Jack and Gert, and her brother John, she is survived by her family: children and grandchildren - Stacey Tryban (Tony Webber), Ashleigh, Makenzie, Elizabeth and Jenna; Rebecca (Matt) Cressman, Hayden and Sam, Tom Tryban (Jaime Johnson), Alexis and Bryce; siblings, Kathy (Larry) Chaskey, Robert (Cindy) Taylor, Kim Taylor (Jeff Lowery), and Penny (Clayton) McGovern, her dear cousin and friend Rosemary Tracy; step-children Steve, Shawna, Shane DeRoos, and their families, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will miss her every day, but undoubtedly carry her in the way we love, the stories we tell, and her legacy of kindness.

In her honor, we’ll continue to gather, laugh, and to care for one another - just like she always did.
