Susan Matthews

Susan Matthews, 75, of Bliss, MI, passed away on June 30, 2025

Susie was born on November 23, 1949, in Ann Arbor, MI to Nedlyn and Herbert Kipfmiller.

Born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI, she graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School in the class of 1967. Susie dedicated her career to the University of Michigan Dental School, where she worked as a dental assistant in Oral Surgery and formed many lifelong friendships.

Later in life, Susie moved to Bliss, MI, where she lived on a farm. She raised horses and cultivated bountiful gardens of garlic, tomatoes, and herbs. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, falling near her birthday; she loved nothing more than cooking and hosting warm gatherings for family and friends.

In 2015, Susie married Barry Matthews. Together, they shared a deep love and spent every moment cherishing life with their beloved dog, Abbi.

Susie will be remembered for her laughter, her bright and welcoming smile, and her generous spirit. She loved sharing crystals so others could enjoy rainbows in their homes, always saying that if you saw a rainbow, it meant she was thinking of you.

Susie is survived by her loving husband, Barry Matthews; her brother, John Kipfmiller; her daughter, Kimberly McIntire; and her grandchildren, Nathan and Maya Scott. She is also survived by her nephews, Kip (Tracy) Sinclair, Trevor Kipfmiller, and Rob (Shelley) Hehr; and Barry’s children, Barry (Amy) Matthews, Scott (Heather) Matthews, Carrie (Tate) Whitener, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Kipfmiller; mother, Nedlyn Ferguson; sister, Sandra Hehr; first husband, Earl McIntire; and second husband, David Houck.
