Theresa Gouin Obituary

Theresa Marie Gouin, 78, of Inverness Township, Cheboygan, MI, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family, on September 24, 2025.

Theresa was born on January 27, 1947, in Pontiac, MI, the first born child of the late Harry and Mary (Sheneman) Reynolds. She grew up in Garden City, MI, and graduated from St. Casimir High School with the class of 1965.

On August 17, 1968, Theresa married the love of her life, Chester J. Gouin, Jr., at St. Mary’s of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska, MI. Shortly after marrying, they moved to Cheboygan, MI, and started their family at Chet’s Family Homestead on Wing Road. When the P&G paper mill closed in 1990, Chet and Theresa moved their family to Mehoopany, Pennsylvania. Upon retiring in 2003, they happily returned to their Homestead.

A woman of deep faith, Theresa was a dedicated member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Riggsville and a member and proud supporter of the Right to Life. She loved to read, dance, sing in the choir, and teach Catechism. She also had enjoyed sharing her creative spirit by performing with a local theater group, the Northland Players.

Above all, Theresa was a devoted Wife and Mother, and she lived it fully, doing whatever was necessary, be it driving a tractor, running to town for parts, or bringing meals to family working in the hayfield. She generously extended her love, earning the title of "great mom" from many who weren't biologically hers, as she welcomed everyone who stayed in her home as one of her own. Her unwavering love and welcoming nature will be profoundly missed.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Chester; their five children: Chester (Pamela) Gouin, III, Lisa (Eric) Schmaltz, Lora (Erik) Delgado, Leanna (Rodney) Sherman, and Melissa (Kevin) Brewer; her twelve grandchildren: Chester Gouin IV, Jayden Gouin, Alexander Schmaltz, Abigail (William) Spears, Aaron Schmaltz, Aimee Schmaltz, Detric Delgado, Gabriel Delgado, Shawn Sherman, Collin Sherman, Jesse (Allyssa) Gouin, and Tyler Brewer; and her six siblings: Laverna Getscher, Sue Raczynski, Bernadine Trower, Michael Reynolds, Mary Frye, and Debbie Reynolds; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 30th at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home from 4-8pm with a Vigil Service being held at 7pm.  The family will again receive friends on Wednesday, October 1st from 10-11am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville, followed immediately by the funeral Mass at 11am.   Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Riggsville.
