Theresa Stephenson Price Robinson Obituary

Our beloved “Mother Theresa,” 79, of Petoskey, died February 6, 2024 surrounded by her adoring family.

Theresa was born on May 14, 1944, in Pontiac, Michigan, the daughter of John and Ida (Goldsmith) Coveyou. Her family moved to Petoskey when she was 4 years old. She attended a one-room school house on E. Bear River Road for her early education and graduated from St. Francis High School.

On December 29, 1962, she married Robert Stephenson. Together they built a home and had five children.

Theresa began working as a seamstress for Petoskey Bridal in 1969, where her talents in sewing would shine bright for many years. She was extremely gifted with dress making, alterations, and was passionate about serving the brides in her community.

She married her “sweetheart” Gerald Price, on August 22, 1976. They shared 32 wonderful years together. In 1990, with the encouragement and partnership of her family, Theresa purchased Petoskey Bridal. She owned and operated the shop until her retirement in 2011, handing the reigns to her daughters.

After Gerald’s death in 2008, Theresa met Gordon Robinson. They were married on March 5, 2011. They enjoyed farm life, sleigh rides through the snow, making maple syrup and sharing their faith and families. Gordon also preceded her in death.

Theresa also enjoyed quilting, painting, and tending to her flower gardens.

Her greatest gift was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely and prayed for them daily.

Theresa is survived by her children, Cindy (Craig) Whitley of Petoskey, Robert (Sunni) Stephenson of Honduras, Gerrilynn (Michael) Belfy of Petoskey, James (Mandy) Stephenson of Florida and Angie (Scott) Way of Charlevoix; step-children, Cathy (Dale) Millard of Grand Rapids, Deb (the late Thomas) Taylor of Gaylord, David Price of Maryland and Judi (Nate) Schantz of Grand Rapids; Gordon and Misuk Robinson of Greenville, Charles and Cheryl Robinson of Boyne City and Galen and Barb Robinson of Boyne City, brother Duane (Norma) Coveyou of Petoskey, brother-in-law Leo Schwartzfisher and many treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren from the Stephenson, Price, and Robinson families. Theresa loved people unconditionally and always strove to see the good in everyone, she was truly a treasure to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Gerald Price and Gordon Robinson; sister Beverly Schwartzfisher; and step-son Michael Price.
