Thomas Rosel, 82, of Petoskey, Michigan, passed away on Monday, April 28th, 2025. Tom was born in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Ralph & Mildred Rosel. He married his best friend, Nancy Miller, in 1964. They enjoyed sixty plus years together, raising three daughters and cherishing six grandchildren. Especially in the last few years of his hard fought battle with cancer, Nancy was an amazing caregiver, always very organized with the patience of a saint.
He graduated from Western Michigan University to become a high school teacher. After teaching, he embarked on a new adventure in management for multiple McDonald’s in Northern Michigan for fifteen years. In 1988, he purchased Tri-Lakes Appliance Repair and successfully served the area for seventeen years. Tom was a member of Petoskey United Methodist Church.
Tom always enjoyed his time off, mostly involving things that go fast - motorcycles, snowmobiles and boats. Go-karts and horses were his methods of speed as a child. Tom had a great curiosity for how things worked, and was determined to fix everything himself. Most of the time he was successful. He loved the outdoors, traveling, fishing, hunting and camping. Tom also enjoyed playing pickleball, racquetball and card games with dear friends. He was a connoisseur of vanilla malts, with Don’s Drive-In winning his vote as the best in the state. Above and beyond, family was the most important thing to Tom.
Visitation will take place at Stone Funeral Home on Sunday, May 4, from 4-6 pm. On Monday, May 5th, visitation will be from 10-11 am, prior to an 11:00 service at Stone Funeral Home, followed by graveside burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, MonaLou Walter and beloved brother-in-laws, Harley, Rick, Carl, Ken & Cliff.
Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy, and three children, Michelle (Glenn) Moots, JoEllen (Rob) Thompson and Kara (Phil) Copeland. They were blessed with six grandchildren, Ashley, Spencer, Rebekah (Josh,) Andrew (Emma,) Jace and Arden. He is survived by two sisters, Joanne Schuler and Karen Schmidt.
