Timothy L. Schlappi

Timothy Lawrence Schlappi, age 65, of Petoskey, passed away peacefully at his home on January 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Tim was born on May 8, 1960, in Petoskey, the son of Forrest and Lula (Hickman) Schlappi. One of eleven children, he grew up in a close-knit family and attended Harbor Springs Public Schools, graduating in 1978.

Following high school, Tim began his work at Northern Diecast before pursuing mechanics at Richard’s Tire. His dedication and skill eventually led him to open his own business, Tim’s Underbody, which he owned and operated with pride until his retirement in 2022.

In his free time, Tim enjoyed watching NASCAR races, snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing, and boating. He enjoyed playing cards and board games and attending auctions. Above all else, his greatest joy was his family. He cherished family gatherings, shared holidays, and time spent around the dinner table. Tim especially loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and never missed an opportunity to support them.

Tim will be remembered for his trademark deep, gruff voice, which was instantly recognizable to anyone who knew him, as well as his great sense of humor, and kind heart. He often said, “I’m not here for a long time; I’m here for a good time,” a phrase that truly reflected how he lived his life.

Tim is survived by his children, Carrie Cranick of Pellston, Tim (Candice) Schlappi of Boyne Falls, James Schlappi of Petoskey, and Trish (Dave) Eggers of Levering; grandchildren, Haily, Ashley, Caleb, and Andrew Cranick, Emileigh, Addison, Zoe, Hunter, Bentley, Isabelle, and Keaton Schlappi, Kiley, Zuri, and Rozlin Eggers; siblings, Diana (Glenn) Peebles, Donald (Mary Kay) Schlappi, Ronald Schlappi, and Rosetta (Joel) Stanley; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Bob, Charles, Doug and Dick Schlappi, and sisters Virginia Beair and Ethel Knepp.

There will be a memorial service at Stone Funeral Home (2098 E. Mitchell Rd. Petoskey, MI 49770) on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A celebration of life luncheon is being planned for some time in the summer of 2026, details will be announced at a later date.
