Tyrus Frederick Miller, Jr., 83, of Harbor Springs, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at the home of his loving brother Bob and Sandra Miller in Alanson, Michigan.
Ty was born on October 19, 1936 at the old Lockwood Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan to Tyrus Frederick and Cecil Mae (Phillips) Miller.
Ty mostly grew up in Harbor Springs but for a short few years the family lived in Grand Rapids. Ty started school in Grand Rapids. Following the end of World War II the family came back to Harbor Springs.
He graduated from Harbor Springs High School in 1954. Following school he worked for his uncle, Al Phillips, at the Phillips Flying Service which later became Harbor Springs Airport.
In January of 1955 Ty enlisted in the United States Air Force retiring as a Master Sergeant in January 1975. During his time in the service he was stationed at Lincoln, Nebraska, Wright Patterson Air Base, KI Sawyer Air Base and Wurthsmith Air Base to name a few. He also was in the Azores for a short period of time. Story was during a storm warning he went to England, while there he had to ride a bus to visit London.
He came back to Harbor Springs to live in the family home. He worked a little while restoring a house to resale and worked at a factory in Pellston then he fully retired (how neat is that in his 40’s).
Ty was the favorite uncle for 25 nieces and nephews.
Ty is survived by 3 siblings, Donna (Darwin “Lefty”) Swenor of Alanson, June (Bill) Blakemore of Harbor Springs, and Bob (Sandra) Miller of Alanson; as well as sister-in-laws Eva and Mary Miller.
Ty was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Al and Terry.
A memorial service celebrating Ty's life will be held on October 2nd at 1pm at 2852 Oden Rd (US 31), Alanson, following which Ty will be laid to rest at the Little Traverse Township Cemetery.
