Vernon Daniel Paten

Vernon Daniel Paten, age 84 passed away May 8, 2023, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

Veron was born on October 27, 1938, in Bay City, MI to James William Paten and Noreen Wanda (Case) Paten. He married Joyce Marie (Bedore) Paten on October 20, 1962, and together they had four children; Vernon William Paten born June 16, 1967, Jodi Lynn Paten born September 18, 1968, Steven Todd Paten born July 17, 1970, and Christine Lynn Paten born December 20, 1971 (grandchild - Steven Wislawski).

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents William and Noreen; daughter Jodi Lynn Paten on February 28, 1969; sons Vernon William Paten on March 2, 1969, and Steven Todd Paten on January 1, 1992.

Vernon later married Lois Jean (Crawford) Paten on October 26, 1988. They had two children together. Alexander Navidzadeh (Lois’ child before marrying Vernon) and his wife Laurie Allen. Desiree Navidzadeh Dowling (Lois’ child before marrying Vernon) and her husband Timothy Dowling (grandchildren – Kyler, Aubrey, Brinlee), Daniel Russell James Paten born July 2, 1989 (grandchild - Preston Paten) and Matthew Vernon Paten born October 23, 1990, and his wife Nicole (grandchildren – Avalynne, Emma, Dominic, Darrion, Hayilee)

Vernon very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. They always brought a smile to his face. Vernon retired from General Motors. Steering Gear division. He raced homing pigeons for many years and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Vernon moved to Cheboygan, MI where he was well known and liked and was a respected member of the community. He started a small home repair business called Vee Dee Pee.

Vernon is a Veteran of the United States Army. He served from 1-16-1957 until he was honorably discharged on 1-15-1960. He was a light vehicle driver and received a good conduct medal for his service.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at The Lord’s Kitchen located at 647 Court Street, Cheboygan, MI 49721. Service at 11:00am followed by a luncheon.
