Vincent Weingartz Obituary

Vincent R. Weingartz, 95, of Petoskey, died August 12, 2021 at his home with family by his side.

Vince was born at home August 4, 1926, the son of Christopher L. and Agnes F. (Robinet) Weingartz in Centerline, Michigan. Vince was a true patriot and loved his country. He proudly served as a Sargent in the US Army Air Corp during World War II in the 56th Air Engineer Squadron as an aircraft Radio Technician and Morse code Telegraphist. Preceding the war, Vince became skilled in the building trades including Lock Smith specialist and a union brick layer. He helped build many churches and private homes in the Detroit area during his time as a brick layer. Vince retired as a civil engineer from Selfridge Air Base.

On September 9, 1950, he married Laura Tomaszewski. Together they built their family home in Shelby Township and was a dedicated father to five sons and two daughters. Vince also built their retirement home in Canadian Lakes, MI and eventual moved to Petoskey in 2003.  Laura preceded Vince in death in 2019.

Vince had many hobbies, including HAM Radio at age 9, harmonica player, piano player, Barbershop Quartet singer, and sang tenor in the St. Lawrence Parish (Shelby Twp.), St. Michael Parish (Remus) and St. Francis Xavier Church choir. He has been a member for decades of NARFE, the Knights of Columbus and countless other charitable and non-profit organization.

Vincent is survived by his children, Daniel Weingartz of Brevard, NC., Margaret “Peggy” Weingartz of St. Clair Shores, MI., Chris Weingartz of Petoskey, MI., Tim (Linda) Weingartz of Middleville, MI., John (Laurie) Weingartz of Petoskey, MI., Lawrence Weingartz of Brevard, NC., and Constance “Connie” (Arthur) Keyes of Chandler Hills, MI.; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and by his siblings, his brother Father Francis Weingartz and sister Rita Frankowiak.

He is reunited in death with his wife of 69 years, Laura.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on October 4, 2021 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with a one-hour visitation prior to Mass. Father Greg McCallum will officiate.
