Virginia "Ginny" (Sample) Billings

Virginia “Ginny” Billings, 93, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Born and raised in the Jacksonville, IL area, she was the daughter of Ross and Laura Sample. She married David Billings in 1949, living in Galva, IL and Glen Ellyn, IL before moving to Walloon Lake, MI in 1987, spending many winters in Gold Canyon, AZ after they retired.

Her husband preceded her in death on the same date in 2008. She is survived by two sons, Bart and Chuck and two daughters, Becky Olson and Janet Miller; seven grandchildren and their spouses; nine great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews and their families; as well as many friends and young people to whom she was known as Grandma Ginny. She will be remembered for her deep faith, bright smile, kind heart and warm hospitality.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be sent to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospice, 1515 Cal Drive, Davison, MI 48423. Visitation will be on Monday, May 2, at 10:00 a.m. at Walloon Lake Community Church, with service following at 11:00, Pastor Jeff Ellis officiating. The church will provide a luncheon following the service. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Scott Hotchkiss and the staff of Petoskey Family Medicine for their loving care; McLaren Northern Michigan Hospice; the ER, intensive care and general care doctors, nurses and staff of McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital; and her Walloon Lake Community Church family for their love and support.
