Virginia ‘Ginny’ Rogers, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Friday, August 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in East Detroit, she was the daughter of Marjorie and Fred Jefferies. She graduated from East Detroit High School in 1954 and, in 1957, married John O’Brien Rogers. Together, they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, raising their family and filling their home with laughter and traditions. They could often be found square dancing, bowling, playing cards, or spending summer days camping.
Ginny’s hands were rarely still—whether sewing, quilting, or crafting, she delighted in creating gifts that carried pieces of her love. Each handmade quilt and project was stitched with thoughtfulness and joy, leaving her family with treasures that will be cherished for generations. She gave much of her time to supporting her children’s activities, from Girl Scouts to marching band and boosters, always ready to pitch in where needed. She was also a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan, cheering faithfully through every season, celebrating the wins, and keeping hope through the losses.
She is survived by her three children: John (Sherry) Rogers of Oklahoma, Suzanne (Randal) Leestma of Petoskey, and Colleen Rogers of Wisconsin; five grandchildren: Amanda Tibble, Joshua (Monique) Tibble, Rebecca Tibble and Matt Dankart, Bailey Gesteland and Meghan Beaubien, and Logan Gesteland; and three great-grandchildren: Sonya Swetich, Leona, and Taylor Tibble. She was preceded in death by her husband, John.
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey on Friday, September 5, at 11:00 am. Ginny will be remembered for her creativity, her devotion to family, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
