Wendi Allen Obituary

Wendi Allen passed away on a beautiful rainy summer morning, surrounded by many who loved her.

Wendi was born on June 22, 1953, in McAllen, Texas, to Richard Platt and JoAnn Patten Allen. She was the younger sister of Jacque, and the elder sister to her beloved Robin. During her childhood, her family lived in Texas, California, Arizona and finally Michigan, a place she loved and cherished.

She graduated from Bloomfield Hills Andover High School in 1971 and moved west for her education. She attended Dixie College and later, Southern Utah University, where she graduated with a teaching degree. She spent her life working in the medical field, spending many years in the offices of doctors Pierce and McGraw in Harbor Springs. She finished her career at Bay Bluffs, where she was known and loved by so many dear friends, co-workers, residents and families. She was a kind, caring and compassionate person who connected to those around her and she worked hard at a job she dearly loved.

Wendi married Ross Blumke in Petoskey, Michigan in August of 1980. Several years later her son Ryan was born. Wendi loved raising Ryan. Their home was filled with Legos, magic cards, and Ryan’s many friends. Wendi welcomed these friends and often cared for many of them who needed a hug or a place to stay. These friends loved Wendi and have been among her most loyal and loving caregivers in her final years. Her son Ryan was patient and tender as he cared for his mother with dedication and love during her illness.

Wendi was blessed with a dry and wickedly funny sense of humor that made her friends laugh and her burdens lighter. She laughed at the world around her, and she laughed at herself- always the wry observer of life in a world she loved.

She appreciated beauty. She was especially fond of flowers and found joy in the details of each petal. She was generous and shared all that she had. Wendi was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her quiet faith in Christ sustained her in difficult times.

Wendi is survived by her son, Ryan Blumke, sisters, Jacque and Robin, dear brother-in-law Duane Peterson, sister by choice Betsy Taggart, and many cherished friends.
