William Edward Nason

William Edward Nason, age 74 of Petoskey, Michigan, formerly Boyne City, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, April 23, 2019 with his wife Carol at his side.

Bill was born on March 18, 1945 in Saginaw, MI; the son of Robert Holt and Evelyn Marion (Harris) Nason.  He attended Chesaning High School and graduated with the Class of 1963.  He attended Delta College and earned his associates degree in engineering and then went onto Michigan State University and graduated in 1968 with his bachelor degree as an industrial engineer.

He started working at Saginaw Steering Gear as a college graduate in training, when he was drafted into US Army in 1969 and served in Washington D.C. and Vietnam.

On May 20, 1971 he married his first wife Ruth Ann Rhode and she preceded him in death in 1997.  On July 31, 1999 he married Carol Hanes in Saginaw, Michigan. When Bill had time he enjoyed woodworking, working in the yard, helping at Walloon Lake Community Church and especially spending time with his friends, family and two grandsons.  Bills retirement job at Stackus Funeral Home, where he worked for 13 years, was his favorite job. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality and kindness to everyone.

Bill his survived by his wife Carol Hanes-Nason, step-son Chad (Katy) Hanes; grandsons Benjamin and Grady; sister Susan Tracy; niece and nephew; brother-in-law Alan (Susan) Preston; Aunt Lois Harris; special friends Eric and Linda Lenter, George Walker and Jim and Evelyn Howell.

He is preceded in death by his father Robert Nason; mother Evelyn Nason-Jurgens; wife Ruth Ann; and mother and father-in-law Arthur and Cleo Preston.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, April 29th, 2019 at Walloon Lake Community Church.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon Tuesday, April 30th 2019 at the church with visitation being held from 11:00 AM until the time of service, with a luncheon to follow.  Pastor Jeff Ellis will be officiating.

Family request that memorials in Bill’s name be directed to the Walloon Lake Community Church and Harbor Light Christian School.
