Bill Christensen, died peacefully at his home in Boyne City with his wife by his side on November 5, 2023.
Born in Boyne City on July 17, 1938 to Henry & Dorothy (Vought) Christensen, he was one of 7 siblings.
On December 31, 1970, he married Lynda (Yell) Christensen, and they would have celebrated 53 years of marriage in December.
Bill graduated from Boyne City High School in 1956.
He served in the United States Army and upon completion of his military duties he went to work for the East Jordan Iron Works where he spent his next 40 years. He retired in 1998 as Vice President of Human Resources.
Bill helped Lynda at her Real Estate office during his retirement.
Bill is a retired Boyne City Fireman, and the last one of the original founders. He coached Little League while Chris was young. He is a member of the Boyne Valley Knights of Columbus and volunteered in the music ministry at St. Matthew’s Catholic church where he has been a member for the last 53 years. Bill also played in a band at local events for several years. He loved to hunt, fish, bowl and play golf. He was a Rambler through & through. He enjoyed watching the Tigers & the Lions but only when they won!
Bill is survived by his wife Lynda, his son Chris (Sara) Christensen of Boyne City, and his daughter Kristie (Mike) Daniels of Gaylord. A stepdaughter Gail Bellmore (Mark) and one Grandson, Will (his namesake) that he loved from the bottom of his heart. Bill & Will spent many cherished hours together and for the most part no one knew who was watching who! He is also survived by a step-granddaughter Lauren Richards of Charlevoix. He is survived by two brothers, Tom of East Jordan & Mark (Linda) of Groton Connecticut. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law Kathy Christensen of Rockford & Betty Christensen of Boyne City. And two brothers-in-law, John Yell of Charlevoix and Jim (Teresa) Yell of Petoskey. Several nieces & nephews also survive.
Bill was pre-deceased by his brother Ted & wife Delores Christensen, his sister Louise Giem and husband Cecil, his brother Bob Christensen, his sister-in-law Carolyn Christensen, brother Denny Christensen.
Bill’s services will be Thursday evening from 6 – 8 pm for visitation and a Rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 pm at St. Matthew’s church. Visitation on Friday between 10:00 & 11:00 am, with the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. The burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations in Bill’s memory be made to the Waterfront Field of Dreams @5112 James Dilworth Way, Boyne City, MI 49712, Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
