William “Bill” J. Haas, age 82, of Petoskey, Michigan, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, September 8, 2023, at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey after battling kidney failure. Father Greg McCallum will officiate the funeral at St. Francis Xavier Church in Petoskey on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 11:00 am.
Bill was born on September 18, 1940 in Petoskey, Michigan to Anthony (Tony) and Irene (Mead) Haas. He lived in Petoskey his whole life and attended St. Francis Xavier School where he graduated in 1958. Bill served in the Army from 1958-1962. On February 20, 1965, he married Carole (Luebke) Haas.
Bill co-owned and operated H & H Appliance Repair where he was able to go to work every day and do what he loved the most – fixing anything his hands touched. He loved spending quality time with his family and friends and also loved small game hunting and cutting wood.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carole; his daughter, Julie (Jim) Gray; his son, Mike (Debby) Haas; his 6 grandchildren: Sarah Gray, Kenny Gray, Maddie (Jacob) Budnik, Allie (Jordon) Conklin, Korrie (fiancé Daniel Golding) Haas and Kenzie (Noah) Dallos; his great-grandson, Bridger Budnik; his 4 siblings and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Brother Dan’s Food Pantry.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 6-8 pm at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, with the Rosary being said at 7:30 pm, in addition to an abbreviated visitation at St. Francis Xavier Church starting at 10:00 am until the funeral starts. A luncheon will be provided at the Grand Unity Event Center (Knights of Columbus Hall) immediately following the funeral.
