Brian Fettig Obituary

Brian Lee Fettig, 63

Lifelong area resident Brian Lee Fettig died Monday, May 16, 2022, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, following years of struggling with early on-set dementia.

Brian was born July 9, 1958, in Petoskey to Wilbert and Mary Elizabeth (Weimer) Fettig.  He grew up in Petoskey and was a graduate of Petoskey High School.  As a young man Brian worked several years as a store clerk for Giant Supermarket, where he was well liked for his good nature, sense of humor and incredible work ethic.  From his earliest years Brian’s life revolved around family and his love of the out-doors.  Farming and working with animals were a big part of Brian’s life, he spent many happy hours raising cattle and chickens, tilling, planting, and growing vegetables.  What he grew, raised, and canned he gladly shared with others; pickles were always a favorite.  A highlight of Brian’s life was an antelope hunting trip he made with his brother and nephews to Montanna.  It was a memory he kept very close to his heart and one he held onto for some time, in-spite of his dementia.

Brian found his dream job when he began working as a DNR Officer with the State of Michigan, a position he held proudly for more than 23 years.  Many may fondly remember him from his days at Burt Lake State Park.

Never having married, Brian’s brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews were his closest ties.   His surviving siblings include, Douglas (Jane) Fettig, Beverly Jean Gonzoles, Kenny Fettig, David (Karen) Fettig, Tommie Fettig, Terry Fettig, Mary (Gerald) Klooster and many nieces and nephews.  Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Janet Fettig, and his brother-in-law Larry Goethals Sr.  Preceding Brian in death were his siblings, Carol Ann Lamoreaux, Linda Goethals, and Tony Fettig.  His family will never forget the fun times spent with Brian 4 wheeling, motorcycle riding, snowmobiling, hunting, and mushroom picking.  Most of all Brian will be remembered by those close to him as a good soul, who left this life far too early.  He will truly be missed and forever loved.

Brian’s life will be remembered and celebrated during a graveside service that will take place at Greenwood Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. on June 17th.  The service will be led by Rev. David Behling, and all are welcome to attend.

Brian’s family was served by Stone Funeral Home.
