Raymond A. Detcher, 71, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022, at his home in Boyne City surrounded by his children.
Ray was born in Grand Haven, Michigan, to Richard and Eleanor (Campbell) Detcher, on July 5, 1950. He grew up in Whitehall, Michigan before moving to Boyne City, Michigan where he graduated from Boyne City High School in 1968.
On May 20, 1977, he married Judith Cihak of East Jordan. After a brief adventure in the Upper Peninsula, they moved back to Boyne City where they made their home for the past 41 years. Ray worked for the Boyne City Housing Commission for many years before “retiring” and working various odd jobs for the remainder of his life. Most recently working for Atesian Properties in Bay Harbor. He loved woodworking, gardening, candle making, wine making, coaching baseball, and spending time with family and friends around the campfire listening to country music.
He is survived by his children, Angela (Ken) Wilson of Walloon Lake, April (Kelly) Bellant of Boyne City, Andrea (Christopher) Horn of Boyne City, Geoffrey (Shelly) Detcher of Leo, Indiana, and Beau (Susie) Detcher of East Jordan. He was also a grandfather of 18 and a great-grandfather of ten. He is also survived by his siblings, Richard (Carol) Detcher of Lake Alfred, Florida, Nancy (Randy) Cain of Charlevoix, Amy VanHoosier of Boyne City and David Detcher of Traverse City as well many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Judi, his parents Richard and Eleanor, and his sisters Joanne Snyder and Kathy Detcher.
An open visitation will take place between 3 and 5 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City. A celebration of Ray's life will take place at the Detcher home following the visitation.
