Betty J. (Morden) Miller

Betty J. Miller, age 91, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Tendercare in Gaylord. Betty was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 9, 1925 to Henry and Elizabeth (Farquharson) Morden.

She graduated from Pershing High where she met her high school sweetheart Richard Miller and together they had enjoyed 70 years of marriage.

Betty was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking and taking care of her children. She also worked at Montgomery Wards and J.L. Hudson in Detroit.

After her husband’s retirement from Chrysler Corporation, they moved north to Wolverine where they lived a number of years. They also lived in various other locations in Northern Michigan, including Indian River, Hessel, Petoskey and finally in Gaylord.

Betty loved animals, whether they were hers or the strays that wandered in. She also had a love for nature and all its wild creatures. She and Richard also enjoyed visiting Michigan’s lighthouses.

Betty is survived by her sons, Charles (Doris) Miller of Alanson and Kurt (Gertrude) Miller of Garylord; daughter, Janet (John) Vian of Indian River; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard, and a daughter, Margaret Green, as well as her sister, Margaret Pollack.

A memorial service celebrating Betty’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, at Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey with the Rev. Matthew Peters officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service.
