I remember going to the school when Dessa and Naomi were little, and they would both come running up to me when I entered the classroom, they would be all giggley, and talking a mile a minute. Naomi said this is my best friend Dessa. I think of those days in their classroom often. And remember them fondly. I remember taking Naomi to Dessa' s house and dropping her off, so they could play together. My minds picture of Dessa, is always this beautiful little girl, laughing, happy, and a loyal friend to my Granddaughter Naomi. I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish I'd known that she wasn't happy, maybe I could have been someone to talk to and maybe been a sounding board, or whatever. She was beautiful! I'll keep you in my prayers! Dessa Jo was funny, intriguing, empathetic, kind, determined and spirited. In many ways she was an enigma. She seemed like an old soul...one who felt the emotions of others deeply and profoundly. My joy is that you shared her with each of us. My sadness is that the time was too brief. My peace is that she taught each of us to be kinder and to listen closer and to love fiercely. May you find a way to breathe, remember, love, and laugh. She was a puzzle who left a piece of her in each of us. We will use those pieces to hold one another up during this time of sorrow. My sincere condolences. Godspeed, Dessa Jo, you are loved beyond and that means you mattered to many.

Dessa's bright and loving smile combined with her quiet strength and dignity lit up our classroom when I taught her in the 5th grade. Her innate ability to make friends and look out for others made her such an asset to our school. My heart goes out to you during this time of great grief.

Pete and Dianne, I don't think you k ow how much of an imprint Dessa left on all of us that were fortunate enoughto be a part of her young life. We will never forget watching her scoot across the carpet on her little butt as fast as she could go because she didn't want to crawl, and even after all these years a picture of her face when she smiled easily comes to mind. Sending strength to all of you as you walk through this.

My darlings I just don't have words, my heart hurts so. I am sending all the light and love possible.
Dessa for you:
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honor.
Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
