Gayle G. Anderson, 87

Gayle Anderson 87 of Petoskey, passed away May 26, 2015 at Independence Village. 

Gayle's family will celebrate her life during a funeral service that will take place this Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Stone Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.; Rev. David Behling will officiate.  Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. 

Gayle was born in Brooklyn, New York to Charles and Dorothy (Adams) Gerow on April 29, 1928.  Her parents moved the family to Michigan, settling in Highland Park where Gayle attended school.  She was a graduate of Highland Park High School, Class of 1946 and went on to attend Michigan State College, Class of 1950.  While attending Michigan State she was a member of the Beta Beta Chapter of the Alpha Phi Sorority. 

On September 8, 1951 she married Hira D. Anderson Jr. in Detroit, the couple initially made their home in Ann Arbor while Hira finished his Law Degree.  The two then made their home in Birmingham where they raised their family.  Following retirement Gayle and Hira moved north to Walloon Lake where they remained.  Hira preceded Gayle in death on February 3, 2012. 

Gayle was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her home was a place of warmth, love and support.  Over her life when it came to the needs of family and friends she gave of herself selflessly and tirelessly.  Throughout her illness she retained a positive attitude and was always more concerned for the needs of those around her than her own.  She was a lovely lady who will be sorely missed, but forever remembered fondly.

Surviving Gayle are her children, Paul, Peter, Kimberly Winblad and Scott and her eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Including her husband Hira, Gayle was preceded in death by her daughter Kameron Anderson-Bates and her brother, Gordon Gerow.
