Gloria Goodenow

Gloria Ann Goodenow, 77, of Mackinaw City, passed away Monday, November 23, 2015 at home.

Gloria was born June 10, 1938 in Mackinaw City, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Preston) Hayes, and grew up and attended Mackinaw City Schools.  On June 20, 1956 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mackinaw City, she married George Goodenow, who preceded her in death.  She made her first home in Empire, Michigan while her husband George, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force, was stationed there.  Gloria and George traveled to many places during his career in the military, having four children along the way.  Gloria loved camping, making porcelain dolls, sewing, playing cards, spending time with her family, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post # 159 in Mackinaw City.

Surviving are a daughter, Terry (Rob) Meister, a son, Mike Goodenow, and daughter Janice Goodenow, a sister, Dawn Edwards, three granddaughters, Jodi (Jason) Closser, Samantha and Chloe Cooley,  two great grandchildren, Jaylin and Jordan, her favorite beloved dog, Max,  sister in laws Linda (Ed) Phillips, Nancy Gillespie, Gerry Goodenow, and Virginia Goodenow, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, a son David, a sister Margaret Hughes, and a brother Jack Hayes.

Gloria’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mark Drogowski and his staff, Kay at Hospice of the Straits, Clyde Hulett, and Karen Krueger for their kindness and care.

A family gathering will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Straits, a Humane Society of one’s choice, or the charity of one’s choice.
