Message from The Liederbachs
December 27, 2015 6:03 PM

G'day and Mery Christmas from Australia. All of us Liederbachs are "down under" for Patrick's wedding on Dec 30th. When Margaret arrived down here last week she told us (mom & dad aka Kathy & Fred) the sad news of Keith's passing. We're sorry we did not hear the news sooner, and that we were not able to be there for the memorial service. We know both Patrick and Freddie would have loved to have been there as well. Thankfully Margaret was in town and she was able to be there to represent all of us.
Keith. A character, a force, a puzzle, a leader, a giver, a friend, and most succinctly, a real man. He helped coach Patrick and challenged him to become the great runner he was and is, and he directly coached Freddie all three years as a varsity runner. Freddie grew from a timid, skinny wafe to a steady rock under Keith's leadership, earned a college schalarship, and just recently finished a fine career as a D-1 ruuner at Niagara U. Keith can take a lot of credit for that. More importantly, when we lost Fred's brother (the kids' uncle) tragically in Freddie's senior year, Keith took Freddie aside and consoled him at a time when we were too confused and too scattered to be much help to Freddie.
Beside his commanding presence as a coach, we also saw Keith in action as a loving husband. Kathy's mom resided in Bay Bluffs her last few years, down the hall from Millie. Keith was often there with Millie when we went to visit "Granny". We saw a gentle, compassionate side of Keith that a lot of his runners never saw. He was a rich, deep personality and we're blessed that we saw him in a variety of lights.
Over the last couple years we've said repeatedly we need to go visit Keith, but we never did. We hope he knew, and knows, that we've been pulling for him and praying for him. Likewise, at this time of loss, We hope Millie, Jacques, Blaise, Damien, Marty, Derrick, Gerard, Gary, Mary Jill, Troy, Jessie, and the entire family knows that the Liederbachs are pulling for them, and that you will be in our thoughts and prayers as we celebrate Patrick's marriage in a few days. May God bless Keith and all of you.

Millie,
I was shocked and saddened when I read the news of Keith's passing. Even though I haven't seen him in a number of years, I still have always kept his words, laughter and advice with me. The last time I saw him well he called me what he had always called me (the nickname he gave me many years ago in true Keith fashion) and with a big smile shook my hand like a brother. Such a strong and honest man. He told me many stories along the way...we laughed hard together at times and were quiet at times when he did. I was always thankful when he told me stories about Nam...I know it wasn't easy for him to speak about. He meant an awful lot to me and he has changed how I view life. A true bother to me. He gave me something 20 years ago that I think you guys should have. It has been in my Bible for 21 years and has helped me all that way.
May the Lord comfort and keep you all. May He make His face shine upon you. May He bless you with peace.

My condolences to all of the family and friends who will miss Keith.

To anyone who knew him, Keith will always be an unforgettable figure. I'll remember him most for his generosity, of his resources and knowledge, but mostly of his time. I was fortunate to have spent a lot of mine with him during some formative years, when he freely volunteered his time to coaching anyone from the community who wanted help in reaching their goals, whether that was weight-loss or maximum athletic achievement.
He spent hours in the freezing cold with a stopwatch, and always had a kind word for anyone who showed up to work with him. He spent even more of his time earning money that he could then spend on better transportation, weekly barbecues, and travel to races. If there was ever a need, he made sure it was taken care of through endless hours of work and study on his own time. It all had a hugely positive effect on many of those that spent their time being mentored and coached by him.
There are many of us who will always remember Mr. Keith Henning.

My sympathy on the loss of Keith. I never knew him well, but when he was doing some amateur canoe racing, back in the day,,,he paddled a race or 2, w' my husband, John. Once he even spent a night, at our home, in Beaverton, MI, to be nearer to the race location. We enjoyed his company and his enthusiasm. John passed several years ago, so maybe they'll find a canoe and paddle away again.

Uncle Keith and HENNING family, I will always remember and appreciate that last heart to heart conversation we had. You shared some important things about yourself and passed along some wisdom. I thought of that as a gift that I will cherish. Love: Heather, Dawson, Laurynn, Sophia & Jayden Harvard

In my last conversation with Uncle Keith, his legacy was important to him. He wanted to live on through the stories that people told about him. Perhaps someone in the family can keep "the Herd" going thru coaching and mentoring and keep his memory alive.
My condolences to all of our family, who knew this day would eventually come and yet all you could hope for was a peaceful passing.
All my love, hugs...to our family.
