Monica E. Hinkley, 96 of Cheboygan, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at The Brook Retirement Community in Cheboygan.

Monica was born December 15, 1919 in Detroit, the daughter of William and Rose (O’Brien) Perry.  Growing up in Cheboygan, she attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and was a graduate of Cheboygan High School.  On February 22, 1941, she married George Hinkley at St. Mary Catholic Church Rectory in Cheboygan.  She and George moved to Detroit, but returned to Cheboygan to live when he was called to service in WWII.  He preceded her in death in 2003.

Monica was employed by the Cheboygan Area Schools as a secretary, first at East Side Elementary, and then Cheboygan Junior High, from which she retired after many years.  Her many interests included knitting, sewing, baking, bowling, and even an attempt at oil painting.  Her greatest love was for her husband of 62 years, and her family.  She looked forward to family gatherings of any kind; reunions, birthdays, and especially Christmas, her favorite season.  Christmas shopping was a joy for her.

Surviving are one daughter, Patricia (Ronald) Beebe and two sons, George (Mary) Hinkley and Mark(Kendra) Hinkley, all of Cheboygan, five grandchildren; John Beebe of Kalamazoo, Karen (Joel) Ross, Greg Hinkley and Geoff Hinkley all of Cheboygan, and Will Hinkley of South Carolina, two great granddaughters, Allison Woiderski and Andolyn Hinkley, one brother, Richard (Maxine) Perry of Prattville Alabama, three sisters-in-law, Violet Perry, Louise Perry, and Darlene Perry, as well as many nieces and nephews, dear friends, Gerry, Wanda and Fran, and Will’s fiance, Dana Newman.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, four sisters; Marvel Sly, Patricia Silbernagel, Rose Ellen Gilson and an infant sister, Rita, and six brothers; Daniel, William, Cullen (Kite), Donald, Bernard (Bun) and Jack Perry.
