Shirley (Danner) Rettell

Shirley E. (Danner) Rettell, 88, of Cheboygan went to join the love of her life on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

Shirley was born September 30, 1927 in Ann Arbor Heights, MI, the daughter of William and Ethel (Dean) Danner .  On April 26, 1952 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in New Boston, Michigan, she married LeRoy Rettell, with whom she spent 60 wonderful years.  She was employed as a supervisor of telephone operators at Michigan Bell in Detroit.  After the birth of her first child she quit her job to become a full time wife and mom.  She loved to bake and would have cookies waiting after school for her children and their friends.  She was an active member of St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, was a den mother for the Boy Scouts, was active in the Girl Scouts, and enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, crocheting, but most of all, reading.

Surviving are her six children, Cindy (Bob) Lane of Grayling, Aleta Seifert of Cheboygan,  Brenda Charboneau of Mt. Pleasant, Brian (Julie) Rettell, of Cheboygan, Daria (Jerry) Deason of Maryland, and Elena (Larry) Comps, also of Cheboygan, 21 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, three brothers in law, Larry (Kathy) Rettell of Alpena, Francis (Irene) Rettell of Avoca, Michigan, and Raymond Colpaert of Sterling Heights, and her sister in law, Aileen Rettell of Lewiston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband LeRoy in 2012, one brother, James Danner, and two sisters, Priscilla Gauthier and Peggy Aud.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 5:00-8:00pm, with a rosary beginning at 7:00pm, at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home in Cheboygan.  The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 11:00am, with the family greeting friends beginning at 10:00am, at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church in Cheboygan.  Rev. James Gardiner will officiate, burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cheboygan.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
