Stephen Arthur VanAllsburg “Poppy” 68 years old died peacefully in his home on May 3, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 14, 1947 in Grand Rapids Michigan. Where he attended West Catholic High School. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Warren and Margret (Aernouts) VanAllsburg and his best friend Marv Riley.

On January 21, 1966, Steve answered his country's call by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps.  He served his country honorably in Vietnam.  From wounds suffered in action he was awarded the Order of the Purple Heart; his other awards and decorations included the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal Combat Action Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.  He returned to civilian life following his honorable discharge on January 20, 1970.

He later came to meet the love of his life Miss. Patricia Anne Moran, and married her in Grand Rapids Michigan.

His hobbies were always finding the very first and very small mushroom of the year. Two tracking, horseshoeing and spending his time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Patricia. Son Stephen T. VanAllsburg special friend Stella and son Stephen Roerma. Son Kenneth Moran and wife Denice, grandchildren Kenny and special friend Shawnnah, Kevin, Destiny and Keith. Son Scott VanAllsburg and granddaughter Alex. Daughter Jennifer Pemberton special friend Joe and grandkids Dakota, Montana, Wyatt and Tamara VanAllsburg. Son Michael VanAllsburg and fiancé Ashley grandkids Lilly and Carter Cole and triplets on the way. Two brothers Warren and Bill and two sisters Ellen and Patty. Loving sister in law Kelly Riley her daughter Tara great nephews Skyler and Logan, and nephew Craig who were also by his side daily. And so many other nieces and nephews that he cared so much about. And favorite brother in law Al Keller.

Steve’s family following his wishes are celebrating his life privately.  Friends wishing to remember Steve with a donation, are asked to direct them to his wife Patricia.
