Virginia S. Reed

Virginia S Reed, Died June 22, 2015 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey, Michigan. She was born October 6, 1919 in Jordan Township, Antrim County, East Jordan, Michigan. Her parents were Charles J and Mamie (Shepard) Stanek. She graduated from East Jordan High School in 1937.

 

She attended Logels Beauty School in Lansing, Michigan and worked there for ten years. She was licensed with the Board of Cosmetology with the State of Michigan for many years. Virginia married Harold E. Reed of East Jordan and Lansing on October 6, 1940 at Ithaca, Michigan. They returned to East Jordan in 1947. She worked as a housewife and shop employee at East Jordan Canning Company, Mt. Clemens and Circuit Control (ITT) in East Jordan. Virginia retired from Allied Bendix in Boyne City in 1986 after 20 years.

 

She enjoyed many crafts (knitting, crocheting, embroidery, macramé, hand quilting), reading, traveling, gardening, family, etc. She was a 4H mother for many years. Virginia was a 4H leader, Boy Scout Den Mother, and taught Sunday school for many years as well.

 

Virginia is survived by daughter Anette J (Roger C Cyr), Petoskey, son Charles H (Mina), Whittemore, and son, David J Reed (friend Sherry Johnson), East Jordan, Sister-in-law, Leona (Charles W) Stanek, Sister-in-law, Marge (Robert) Reed, Friend Mary Kraemer, Grandsons Kevin (Jill) Reed, Bradley (Samantha) Reed, Granddaughter Charlene (Reed) Jose. Great grandchildren are Zachery of Indian River (Jon), Chloe and Tanner (Kevin), Rachael and Ashlynn (Charlene).

 

Those preceding her in death were her Husband Harold E Reed on April 24, 1990, Grandson Jon R Cyr on August 31, 1995 (Roger and Anette), Daughter-in-law Mary Elizabeth Reed on February 17, 2009 (Beth/Charles), both parents Charles in 1967 and Mamie and 1970, Sisters Agnes Darbee and Lucille Jenkins Dodge, and Brother Charles W Stanek.

 

A memorial service will take place at the East Jordan United Methodist Church, Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 2:00 by LuAnn Reed. Memorial donations can be in her memory to a charity of your choice.

 

Arrangements are in the care of the Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey.
