Joan (Guthrie) Rybinski

Joan F. Rybinski, 82, of Indian River, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at her home.

Joan was born March 25, 1934 in Detroit, the daughter of Hallie and Olive (Kelso) Guthrie.  She was a 1952 graduate of Sr. Catherine's Catholic School in Detroit. On May 12, 1956 in Detroit, she married Arthur Rybinski.  In 1974 her family moved to Indian River and she served as parish secretary for many years for the Cheboygan Catholic community, retiring in 1999.  She was also a member of the Cross in the Woods Catholic Church.

Surviving are her four children, Paul (Norma) Rybinski of Petoskey, Karen Schneider of St. Clair Shores, Michael (Kim) Rybinski of Cheboygan, and Christopher (Janine) Rybinski of Brutus, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one sister, Mary Calder of Clinton Township, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, special friend William Pousho, and four sisters, Sr. Patricia Guthrie, IHM, Sr. Helen Guthrie, IHM, Janette Crawford and Geraldine Dorey.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017, from 5:00pm-8:00pm, with a rosary beginning at 7:00pm, at the Cross in the Woods Catholic Church in Indian River.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00am, with the family greeting friends beginning at 10:00am, also at the church.  Rev. Mike Haney will officate, burial will be at the Shrine Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Cross in the Woods Catholic Church, or Hospice of Michigan.
